Ja… hat einer von euch schon mal auf einem Platz der PGATour gespielt? Ich vorher nicht! Warum ich diese Frage stelle? Nun, wer die deutschen Verhältnisse unserer Standard-Plätze kennt, sowie deren Grüngeschwindigkeit… und sich daran natürlich gewöhnt hat, der wird auf einem PGA-Platz sein „grünes“ Wunder erleben.
Wenn Pitches auf dem Grün landen, um dann wie auf einer Glasplatte gemächlich, aber stetig schön Richtung Grünrand und dann hinunter zu rollen, der weiss wovon ich spreche. Es war die reinste _HÖLLE_! Drei-Putts waren keine Seltenheit, was aber dem Spielspass keinen Abbruch tat, da ich sowieso mehr die grandios Landschaft bewunderte. Der Zustand des Platzes, sein Erscheinungsbild, die Qualität der Spielflächen ,die Architektur und Gestaltung der Bahnen waren einfach atemberaubend. Ob inmitten der grünen Mangroven oder direkt bis an die karribische Küste, kein Highlight wurde ausgelassen. Selbst die für Yucatan bekannten unterirdischen Wasserhöhlen, die Cenotes, wurden in den Platz integriert.
Die OHL Classic at Mayakoba findet meist im Februar statt und ist nun seit einigen Jahren fester Bestandteil der größten professionellen Tour weltweit. Das Teilnehmerfeld ist meist eher unspektakulär, da die in der Weltrangliste besser positionierten Spieler sich auf dem World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship tummeln.
Allerdings sollte man den Platz zu der Jahreszeit echt nicht aus „Kostengründen“ im Twilight-Tarif (ab 14:00h) spielen, da man in der dort herrschenden Hitze quasi bewegungsunfähig ist. Das Elektro-Cart hat zwar eine Kühlbox mit ausreichend Wasser an Board, die freundlichen Mayas bieten einem kühle feuchte Tücher an, die Sonne jedoch brennt erbarmungslos. Ohne Kopfbedeckung zu spielen ist eine sehr dumme Idee, was man nach geringer Zeit freiwillig einsieht.
Alles in allem ist man selbst im Twilight-Tarif mit ~$2100,00 Mexican Pesos dabei, was in etwas EUR 130,00 entspricht. Zu den „spielbaren Zeiten“ bezahlt man gut und gerne seine EUR 180,00. Hier sollte man sich immer für die zweite, teurere Variante entscheiden, da erste einfach nichts bringt, weil es einfach zu heiss ist.

In the distance is one of the world´s largest coral reefs and the island of Cozumel.
While this Riviera Maya golf course is a standout, the surrounding golf amenities are equally as impressive. The contemporary, copper-topped clubhouse is a full-service facility that rises above the 18th green. The adjoining practice facilities are among the best in Mexico and include a double-ended, 350 – yard driving range, a 20 000 sq. ft. short game area with putting and chipping greens.
